Review of Into the Woods (2014) by Michael P — 13 Jun 2015
Only shes give milk.
A witch begins a string of events that leads to a boy and his cow wandering into the woods, Little Red Ridinghood into the woods to see her grandmother, Cinderella into the woods to visit her mom's grave, and a baker into the woods to find ingredients to help with his wife's pregnancy. They cross paths setting off a string of events that may lead to the witch taking over the lands.
"Perhaps it will take two of us to have this child.".
Rob Marshall, director of Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Nine, Annie (1999), and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides delivers Into the Woods, delivers Into the Woods. The storyline for this picture is entertaining and fun to watch unfold, but a bit long at 125 minutes. Way too long for my six year old. She did like the characters, beanstalk special effects, etc. The acting is pretty good and the cast includes Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Daniel Huttlestone, Tracey Ullman, and Johnny Depp.
"Rapunzel? What kind of name is that?".
My girlfriend was excited to see this movie when the previews first aired so we grabbed it from Red Box this weekend. It was okay and worth a viewing. The musical aspects were in and out of the film, and the special effects were first rate. I also thought the costumes, make-up, and overall feel was solid. This isn't the best film, but it's worth viewing once.
"Any moment, big or small, is a moment after all.".
Grade: C+.
