Review of Into the Woods (2014) by Wayne K — 19 Apr 2015
If you're looking for a Disney happily-ever-after gloss of Grimm's fairy tales, look elsewhere. This is a 1980s Broadway musical by the great Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics), and it comes across well, if dark, in this film.
Meryl Streep is excellent as the witch, well deserving her Oscar nomination. Johnny Depp has a small but great role as the wolf. It's clearly not for everybody, but I liked it.
