Review of Into the Woods (2014) by Alex T — 07 Jul 2015
This film begins with a first half of well known fairy tales, entwined with the lives of Emily Blunt and James Corden's characters. Meryl Streep plays the witch with typical quality, personality and entertainment, and notable praise must be given to both Blunt and Anna Kendrick, who is a superb Cinderella.
However, this seemingly unspectacular, but nevertheless acceptable musical piece, descends into a chaotic mess of a conclusion, frenzied due to a silly plot, and unrealistic conclusions - a completely ironic effect, as it is clear that the negative consequences of a seemingly 'happy ever after' is what was meant to be perceived as realistic.
What was the point of it all really? If the film ended when Meryl Streep turned back into a woman, we would've all felt uninspired, but not the feeling of ultimate disappointment that is felt with this film's poor sanitised and irritating final act.
