Review of Into the Wild (2007) by Samuel J — 29 Oct 2012
This is a pretty damn good film. One of my favorite films is "Jerimiah Johnson" with Robert Redford, and I was curious to see how this film stacked up that that one. Granted the stories are different, but overall they are kind of the same.
I hadn't read the book prior to seeing it so I went into it blind. For the most part, I was thoroughly impressed. My only gripes are the two or three instances where Emile breaks the wall and looks directly into the camera in the montages. Other than that, I thought it flowed really well and the performances all around were very real. Even Vince Vaughn, who still has that bit of himself in the character, but is very believable.
This is definately a film that makes you think hard about what's important in life and what things don't make any sense at all. Like when he wants to raft down the river and finds out its a 12 year wait for a permit.
I do agree it should have been up for a few more Oscars.
Very good film!
