Review of Into the Wild (2007) by Pamela A — 23 Nov 2011
I went to sit down in my very comfortable theater seat at Market Street Cinema; with a fine glass of chardonnay getting ready to watch what I believed would be one of my favorite films of the year. The only thing I didnâ(TM)t take into consideration was that all the hype that my friends and colleagues gave the film would make me view it with extremely high expectations.
And after only the first scene and the title credits I had a horrible look of disgust on my face. Now I no that these two things are very minor to the movie but after being told again and again that this was the best movie of the year, I can only think how.
The story itself is fascinating to the level that every young man has the urge to go out like in Walden and live of the land. But I really canâ(TM)t tell what Sean Penn was going for, I ended up feeling like Supertrampâ(TM)s philosophy was completely wrong, and he comes off like a big baby.
When the movie is good itâ(TM)s real good, but when the movie is bad it is horrible The saving grace of the film is the great acting by everyone in the movie especially Hal Holbrook. Good for one viewing but Penn had no idea what he was doing.
