Review of Into the Wild (2007) by Zohreh S — 11 Jun 2012
I disagree with anyone who says Penn makes it difficult to build an alignment to McCandless. His sheer determination and zest for life is admirable, and despite his arrogance at times and dismissive nature towards his unrelenting and (in my opinion), completely unlikeable parents, it is a true tragedy when you discover his mistake with the berries.
The film shines with shots of the endless, stark landscape around Chris that accentuates his isolation and makes the audience wish we were there with him, making this journey. And I love Catherine Keener.
Never have I seen a character exercise such warmth and I never wanted to stop watching her smile radiate through the screen!
