Review of Into the Wild (2007) by Frank R — 12 Jun 2012
This movie tries WAY too hard to be deep. It's like Philosophy 101 (or remedial philosophy)...truly deep, inspiring and thought provoking movies aren't so literal. The movie in a nutshell? A mentally fragile and spoiled boy thinks leaving it all behind (after his parents paid for his college degree) and burning all his money (that he didn't earn...given to him by his parents) while leeching off society and slinging hamburgers is a path to enlightenment...enlightenment that some of us achieved at a much younger age and it didn't cost us our lives due to stupidity (yes...snow does thaw...and it flows into a river).
Honestly it's too bad he found that bus in the middle of nowhere. He'd have died in the first month saving me about 35 minutes of time wasted watching this movie.
