Review of Into the Wild (2007) by Dave A — 09 Nov 2013
A fantastic personal journey through one man's (and by extension all of humanity's) affinity for something beyond the mundane, hustle-and-bustle of 20th century life. Tells the true story of Christopher McCandless, a college graduate who gives up all his money to charity so he can trek across the country and live authentically; he eventually wants to reach Alaska, where he can live in solitude, surrounded by nature and the ultimate questions.
He meets a handful of interesting people on the way who offer up their perspectives and affection for him, but he is single-minded in his desire to be alone among the trees. There's a bunch of great messages in this film, and I don't think there's a single scene that doesn't serve a valuable purpose to the overall story.
Also, as a fair warning, prepare the tissues.
