Review of Into the Wild (2007) by Tina G — 10 Mar 2016
It was a good movie. But was Chris McCandless' hatred for his father's arrogance so unbearable that he had to hurt his mother and sister THAT cruelly? Because THAT really was cruel; and yet he is a very appealing character.
Badgering an old man to climb to the top of a mountain is the sort of silly thoughtlessness of an adolescent. But I think he showed his manliness when he turned down sex with a beautiful, besotted young girl not just because of her age, but because he was too responsible to risk leaving behind a fatherless child.
By the time he realized he wanted a family, love, a mate, children, he was trapped by the raging river and his own starvation and weakness.
