Review of Into the Wild (2007) by Mike P — 25 Nov 2013
Into the Wild fulfills a fantasy that we've all had at some point or another: being able to abandon the stress and pressure of modern society and go off on our own somewhere to start over new. Of course, none of us actually go through with it, not only because we're not nearly brave or stupid enough to, but also because while these thoughts may cross our minds in a passing fit of angst and rage, after those negative emotions pass, we realize just how grateful we are for everything and everyone we have in our lives and we would never trade it for anything in the world.
Emile Hirsh was robbed of an Oscar nomination for his performance in this film. He shows such a vast range of emotions in this incredible performance. The performances in this movie are so good that it made me not hate Kristen Stewart. It makes you wonder why Sean Penn never decided to directed another film, because he's really damn good at it.
Into the Wild is a beautifully emotional and life affirming tale that takes you on a journey of excitement, emotion, and most importantly, peril. The fact that this film (and the book) is based on a true story makes it all the more surreal.
