Review of Into the Storm (2014) by Brett H — 14 Sep 2014
Surprisingly more entertaining and fun to watch than the trailers suggested, but that doesn't mean it's not a thinly scripted, and cliche-ridden affair. The cast is nothing to write home about, but the stand-out is by-far, Matt Walsh, who is the only character given any kind of depth.
It falls into the sub-genre of found-footage films where part of it is told through characters filming, and then regular camera shots with no one personally filming; kind-of irritating. The storm scenes are admittedly awesome-looking with a few surprising moments, but you know exactly who's going to live and who's going to die, which takes away all sense of tension.
There is one heart-stopping, beautiful, and terrifying moment towards the end in the "eye of the tornado" that made my mouth drop, and that moment will stick with me. It's a dumb, fun popcorn movie with great special effects and a truly kick-ass sound design, worth seeing on the big screen!
