Review of Into the Storm (2014) by Tom G — 13 Mar 2015
Into the Storm rehashes used and tired disaster film cliches that make it a little boring to watch, despite many edge-of-your-seat action sequences. The dull characters that are thrown into legitimate terror are laughably cool, calm, and collected as they document the tornados.
While a team of storm chasers may have high dollar camera equipment, the other character's common hand-cams grab suspiciously clear and crisp footage of the twisters. At one point, a hand-cam proves itself capable of underwater photography, complete with sound.
All in all, the documentary styled film tries and fails to be believable to the YouTube generation, but almost every scene generates a whisper from the audience: "Now, that would't work like that.
" However, if you're going to the movies to watch a disaster flick, featuring tornadoes on fire, with high expectations, then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. As droll as Into the Storm is on a film basis, its stunning visuals and nail biting action sequences make it a fun summer popcorn movie.
