Review of Into the Storm (2009) by Matt L — 20 Jun 2009
Though I am a huge fan of movies that are based on real events, this film was a little hard to swallow at times. I have heard of Winston Churchill before, but I did not know much about him before watching this film.
I figured his life was quite complex and very stressful in that he pulled the United Kingdom out of the second World War after bombing Hitler's Germany. One thing that confused me was that the film tried to compact so much information within the film's 98 minute length.
Yes I know that the film was created for HBO, but at least the film could be a miniseries than a 1 hour+ film. I would enjoy to learn more about him and his relationship with his wife and the people that surrounds him.
Instead, I got general information about his life. It also seems that the director wanted us to research more about him after the film if we were interested. Well, I would be interested if the film gave me more than general information.
And I have to agree with most of the reviews, this film should have been longer than 98 minutes. I am assuming Winston Churchill's life is more than what happened prior and after the war. Overall, the film was still entertaining somewhat.
I did learned something about him -- he was a stubborn drunk. But he was also reluctant to follow orders and chose his own terms. Plus, after researching about the movie, I noticed the film was based on a book.
I probably will not go out and purchase the book myself, but I might read some excerpts from it.
