Review of Into the Storm (2009) by Nathan H — 06 Jul 2009
A great portrayal of Winston Churchill by Brendan Gleeson (who has never had a bad performance, I think), and a great look at World War II Britain and Post-WWII Europe, but an overall uneven film. We shift from 1947 Paris to WWII London, back and forth, back and forth, without title cards, without much change in interior scenery (all of these palaces and mansions have the same furniture, the same wallpaper, the same servants), without much change in makeup, so that it sometimes takes us five or ten minutes to figure out that we're in a flashback.
This is worth watching for Gleeson alone, who truly makes Churchill come alive, but the filmmakers tried to be a bit too clever in their approach, and wound up muddling an interesting story.
