Review of Into the Abyss (2011) by Lucas Y — 23 Oct 2012
One of the most though provoking doc's I've ever watched. The more of Herzog's work I watch, the more I love him. He has the undeniable talent of 1. making great films and 2. the gift to be able to speak with anyone.
How he can be so calm, cool and even humorous to delusional killers who believe they're innocent and a woman who believes she was spiritually impregnated is a rare talent. All the interviews are intriguing, but I wished he would've talked to Perry and his family more, rather than Burkett and his family.
Whatever your stance on the death penalty is, Herzog isn't biased even though we know his opinion from the get go. He lets the viewer form their own opinion without pressuring us.
