Review of Into the Abyss (2011) by Bradley S — 26 Mar 2013
Into the Abyss is a very compelling study of how Capital Punishment in the United States effects all those involved. What shines is the willingness of master documentary-filmmaker Werner Herzog to allow each viewer to formulate their own opinion from the unbiased interviews, crime scene footage, and other material that he presents throughout.
What truly got to me was the films score, presenting a very melancholy atmosphere of depression that is effective in making it quite unsure for the viewer if it is to accent the triple murder of an innocent Texas family, or to make you sickened by the idea of something as barbaric as taking a human life as punishment.
Very pressing stuff if you get a chance to watch it on Netflix.
