Review of Into Great Silence (2005) by Sv G — 07 Nov 2007
A pretty much silent movie about the Cathusian monks (who live a life of silence) Well it's peaceful alright - about 20 minutes in I fell asleep. I woke up 2 hrs later and more (and more) silence.
Everyone seems to have loved this - I feel so ashamed cuz without not one single song and dance number or car chase I just couldn't get into it. Questions I have always had about how that way of life makes a better world or even a better person were not answered. The film-makers had to wait 15 years to get the approval to film in the monastary. I felt like the movie was 15 yrs long (lol) but it was ONLY 3 hrs.
