Review of Into Great Silence (2005) by Ben S — 07 Jan 2008
The image quality varies from very good to very grainy. Director Philip Groening offers almost no background information or context on the monastery or the monks who live in it, and the film itself is choppy and uneven.
When Groening chooses to linger on a given subject, the result is pleasing to watch. But too often he cuts away quickly, and never really gives the movie a chance to breathe.
