Review of Interstellar (2014) by Betsy C — 01 Apr 2016
Epic in every way - grand concepts, sharply attuned acting, blazing visuals, mesmorizing soundtrack music, heartbreaking decisions. A centerpiece above all of director Chris Nolan's greatest ambitions, and even more grandiose and accomplished in so many ways.
Yes - Lofty claims, but proven true.
From its political and social commentary as Matthew McConaughey the parent argues with teacher and principal alike about textbooks fearfully yet boldly changing history to encourage farming over impractical engineering - piercing.
To the complex and highly intellectual finale of crossing into a 3D version of his life where McConaughey is able to contact and warn his daughter by minimally breaking into a past dimension - visually stunning, conceptually brilliant, and likely gobbledy gook to someone else, but having seen it twice in the theatre, I fully got it.
Honestly it took some contemplation after the first viewing.
Was a bit fuzzy initially, after all the other astonishment.
Finally - a movie that challenges you to follow it thru thrilling, jaw-dropping visuals and complex concepts to something more epic - reconnecting humanity with a hopeful future, and a parent fighting to save his own children.
And don't forget the initially flat, door-shaped robot - it has its humor level tamped down to 75 percent from being a smartmouth. So perfectly hilarious and unexpectedly intelligent, I keep watching it again and enjoying each moment of this almost three hour powerhouse flick.
I can't say enough good about this Sci-fi monster epic.
Ok -.
NOW, I think I've said enough.
6 mind blowing space voyages out of 5.
