Review of Interstellar (2014) by Cam O — 29 Oct 2016
After taking in a rich, dense and admittedly ambitious idea, I have finally brought myself to a conclusion. Interstellar, the most anticipated film of 2014, finally makes it's way to the big screen in a unnecessary and lengthy 3 hours.
From the start of act one, I noticed that there's plenty of scenes in Interstellar that could have easily been shortened or even cut out of the film as a whole. The film absorbed too much from 2001, that it almost falters the films intelligence.
Yet, the intelligence of Christopher Nolan's new project never matches up with the utter brilliance needed to follow up a plot so contorted and unnerving. On the bright side, Matthew McConaughey and the rest of the cast was top notch, as well as some striking, cinematic visual effects.
There's one particular scene in the film that has stuck in my mind, where mccaughnehy crosses dimensions, and it was so well thought out and pivotal, it might just inspire SI-FI films to come. Overall, interstellar is a glorified mess; entertaining, yet nothing like the masterpiece it was presented as.
Great acting and visual effects kept Interstellar from shooting off the rails... Until the last 30 minutes.
