Freaking brilliant. You are punishing yourself by having not seen this movie. The director/writer is Bob Gale, who also wrote for the Back to the Future trilogy, and, coincidentally, Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd also have parts in this film.
James Marsden does a very good job in his role as lead character, and Gary Oldman is, as usual, Gary Oldman - which is the highest compliment it's possible to give to him.
