Review of Intermission (2003) by Bendi - — 23 Apr 2004

[font=Trebuchet MS]I wasn't too sure about [i]Intermission[/i] when I first caught the previews a few months back, but of the impressive Irish cast, one particular actor stood out for me and solidified my seat in the theater. [/font].

[font=Trebuchet MS]Which one, you ask? [/font][font=Trebuchet MS]Could it be rising star and lead of [i]28 Days Later[/i], Cillian Murphy? Nope, not him. Could it be A-list Hollywood staple, Collin Farrell? Not after [i]Daredevil[/i] it couldn't be. Nope, my seat was solidified by the one and only Transporter Chief Miles O'Brien himself, veteren Star Trekkian Colm Meaney. [/font][font=Trebuchet MS]That's right, when Colm calls, I'm there.[/font].

[font=Trebuchet MS]In all honesty, I haven't seen anything Colm has done in the last 15 years or so. What actually brought me to [i]Intermission[/i] was a horrendously boring and rainy Friday night and a host of crap Hollywood flicks in all the other theaters. In retrospect, however, it's too bad I didn't plan on seeing this flick from the start because it turned out to be one of the best romantic comedies I've seen in the last few years, and since it's not a genre I generally have a lot of respect for, that's saying alot.[/font].

[font=Trebuchet MS]There's no real drawback to this film. First-time directorJohn Crowley does an impressive job shooting this realistic, "urban" Irish love story written by first-timer Mark O'Rowe. The story is well-written, with multiple intertwining plotlines converging and dark comedy and romance combined.[/font].

[font=Trebuchet MS]The acting is outstanding as each member of this cast holds their own. Impressive performances abound in this flick and I completely expect to see many of these talents showing up more and more.[/font].

[font=Trebuchet MS]All said, this is an excellent flick and is definitely worth checking out![/font].
