Review of Interiors (1978) by Timothy M — 21 Oct 2010
A bit slower than the typical Woody Allen film as far as the pacing for his dramatic films go, so if you find his other films boring I wouldn't advise you to watch this one. It's a real shame too, because it's one of his best.
Geraldine Page's portrayal of a woman on the verge (or perhaps in the midst) of a total breakdown is astonishing and heartbreaking. The dialog in this movie is so spot on, it may seem stilted to some, but it makes complete sense for it to sound that way when looking at the characters in the film.
How else would they talk to each other? I found "Interiors" to be a beautiful and emotionally raw film, especially within the last ten minutes, it's some of the most poetic film-making ever committed to celluloid.
