Review of Insurgent (2015) by Tamia M — 19 Jan 2016
In the sequel to Divergent, Tris, Four, and Tris's brother Caleb are on the run from Jeanine's forces. Caleb isn't cut out for a life on the run. The surviving groups show their love and let them in and hide them, and they pay a price for it.
The story has some twists. Turns out that Four's mother is a badass. There are signs that she is ruthless, but we already have an evil lead in Jeanine, don't we? How many evil ladies does this story need?
Some effort goes into explaining the whys. Some answers are given for why the society was set up the way it was, and it turns out that Tris is a "perfect" divergent. Only she can unlock the secret of why and what the founders intended. Poor Jeanine is distraught to learn the answer. But aren't we all just a bit distraught when our closely held beliefs are seriously challenged?
Jeanine is just waking up to the truth when her fate takes an unexpected turn. Now what!? I look forward to finding out what happens next in the upcoming episode: Allegiant.
