Review of Insurgent (2015) by Tyler R — 17 Mar 2016
The second chapter in the Divergent series, Insurgent, is even worse than the first film. It's aimless, repetitive, chock full of bad acting, and topped off with a nice pinch of boredom. Insurgent picks up with Tris recruiting an army to fight against the oppressive government that is keeping them in a class based society.
The acting, outside of one, is bad. There's no life or soul to anyone, basically embodying one dimensional characters. That one bright spot is Kate Winslet, who managed to make her President Snow ripoff somewhat engaging.
The writing is also atrocious, often chasing it's own tail and coming to a roadblock, only to get past it inexplicably. The pacing is also bad, but that goes hand in hand with the poor writing. The film isn't long, only two hours, but it drags by very slowly.
And when it does end, the viewer is left with a cliche ridden film that unfortunately has another installment on the way.
