Review of Instinct (1999) by Jonny P — 19 Aug 2009
It's like Hannibal meets Dr. Dolittle meets The Green Mile meets Mighty Joe Young meets cheesy ABC Family Channel movie. Unfortunately, they didn't take the best elements from each of these movies.
When I read the description and it involved Anthony Hopkins as a doctor in a mental institution for brutally murdering people, I naturally expected this to be on par with Silence of the Lambs. Unfortunately, it did not take long for it to turn into a nature-lover's fantasy.
I guess that I have to change my philosophy that Hopkins+Thriller=Amazing. The story was not believable, I felt no attachment to the characters, and honestly the only part of the movie that I liked was big black guy who wanted the ace of diamonds.
Anthony Hopkins was okay, Cuba Gooding Jr. wasn't. I don't think that you're missing out if you skip this movie.
