Review of Inspector Gadget (1999) by Edward D — 30 Nov 2011
Although I never watched much of the show, I did like this movie back when I was a kid. But even then I knew what a mess this was, and now that's really all it is, just one big mess. The acting's lifeless, Dr. Claw comes off as silly and unsure of what he's trying to accomplish, the love interest is dull and somewhat unintelligent, Penny hardly does anything (Although I applaud her for trying), the sound effects suck, and the gadgetry is either incredibly awesome or excruciatingly lame. Not to mention, that robotic foot......did someone on the special effects crew have a foot fetish?
Oh, and I did I mention that Dr. Claw reveals his face in this movie? EPIC FAIL!
Overall, this really isn't much to recommend, but it does have its good points. Some of the jokes are funny, Penny does try her best to get in on the action, the scenes with RoboGadget can be pretty exciting, and they actually gave Dr. Claw a REAL claw!
Okay, so this movie, got ONE thing right that the show didn't.....
By all accounts, the movie is pretty stupid, and probably no die hard Inspector Gadget fan is gonna pay a second glance to this rather sloppy adaptation. However, if you're a casual fan or just a casual moviegoer, you might find something to smile at.
