Review of Insomnia (2002) by Ricky G — 08 Nov 2011
This is why I like Nolan's earlier work more than his newer stuff coming out today. Even though I like The Dark Knight and I like Inception, I don't love them and I don't really consider them to be "great" movies. Insomnia on the other hand is a great movie and is probably my favorite out of everything that Nolan has done so far. Even Memento, another movie that I really liked a lot.
Al Pacino plays a cop who had just shot his own partner by accident while trying to chase down the murderer of a 17 year old girl. He never confesses that it was him that shot his partner so he continues to investigate the murder while also having to deal with the guilt growing larger and larger inside of him, as well as sleep deprivation and getting his mind played with by Robin Williams. The acting is absolutely fantastic, the performances alone are enough to recommend the movie. Pacino is bad-ass but also comes off as kind of a person that your ment to hate because of how dishonest he is but at the same time you feel more sorry for him because of all the guilt he has to live and because of how bad-ass his character is, which we can all appreciate.
If your a Chris Nolan fan I recommend you watch this film as soon as possible. It grabs and holds the audiences' attention all throughout it's 2 hour run-time and simply does not allow the audience to get bored. I love it, and I hope you feel the same way.
