Review of Insomnia (2002) by Luke C — 01 Apr 2012
To open with this film had a lot of things right with it including the brilliant cast with a very surprising turn from Robin Williams and a solid story that the viewer can escape into but just don't expect a Memento esque twist to conclude instead the viewer is left with a very interesting and thought provoking moral.
Some of the events in this film were a bit silly and unrealistic for a film that focuses on human ethics e.g when Al & Robin meet on the ferry. Christopher Nolan is without a doubt one of the most brilliant rising directors from Memento-The Prestige-The Dark Knight and this no doubt shows his capability as a fantastic director.
One of the main surprises is that I found is that this film is a remake of the 1997 Swedish version, although I am not sure of the similarities between both films I was sure he modelled it to fit his personal style of character development and sole captivation on personalities.
Overall Insomnia is a very clever and well crafted film with a lot of talents but some scenes were not played out how you may think; an excellent portrayal of character and how you should not lose your way for another.
