Review of Insomnia (2002) by Michael P — 10 Aug 2012
Finally got round to watching this early Nolan, and while it is not up there with his other classics, the story is not his...actually a remake of a Norwegian thriller.
This film is one of morals, game playing and whether the end justifies the means. Detective Dormer is played beautifully by Pacino who has met his match in the crafty pulp crime writer Finch (Williams). The eternal daylight of Alaska provides a harsh setting for Dormer to investigate the death of a young girl, the constant light and lack of sleep playing havok with his mind. I liked the ethical ideas that this film played with...and really forces you to question what is right and wrong, and to what extent. Is a crime a crime if there is no true intent in the 1st place? Liked the look of the film, and well acted throughout. An interesting movie...
