Review of Insomnia (2002) by Kenny N — 07 Jul 2015
This isn't a whodunnit. They tell us whodunnit. Robin Williams, giving his best performance since "One Hour Photo" earlier that same year. Amazing how one of the funniest men who ever lived could deliver two brilliant dramatic portrayals of two completely opposite men.
"One Hour Photo's" Sy was a lonely man who wanted a normal family's life. In "Insomnia," he's a psychopathic crime novelist who's killed a teenage girl. But he has an advantage over the cop sent from Los Angeles to Alaska to bring him to justice.
Al Pacino could play a cop in his sleep. Only this cop can't get any sleep. Could it be the perpetual daylight of the little Alaskan town, or guilt over something waiting for him back in LA? You be the judge.
