Review of Insomnia (2002) by Pump T — 08 Apr 2012
"Insomnia" is a smart, well-acted and well-executed thriller. Al Pacino plays a detective who, either accidentally or intentionally, shoots his partner while running through the fog trying to catch a killer.
Deciding to make it look like the killer shot his partner, Al Pacino starts to suffer guilt and cannot sleep, going through insomnia. The killer, played by Robin Williams in one of the best performances of his career, knows about the shooting of the partner and the insomnia and I do not want to give anything else away.
The direction, done to perfection by Christopher Nolan, expertly shows Al Pacino's insomnia and wrings out brilliant performances from his whole cast. "Insomnia" is a mystery-thriller at his best.
Best part: The log scene.
