Review of Insidious: The Last Key (2018) by Jeremy R — 07 Jan 2018

Let me say I have seen all the movies of this franchise and like others I am a constant watcher of the horror genre. Anyone raving about this film or calling it the best of the franchise is truly a fanatic with an inability to give an unbiased review.

It starts off with potential but as it proceeds, it quickly falls into a generic copy of previous films. Now I am not talking about the jump scares as that is part of the franchise. The dialogue of Specs and Tucker trying to be funny continues but fails miserably as they are generic attempts to copy what previous films have done.

The attempts of trying to connect Elise to her past and the rushed connection of (once again) trying to connect this film to first again is unnecessary and irritating. We get it, the demon with the red face that you keep teasing but failing to produce the story line of.

There is no need for it in this film. It seems as just another way to leave open the possibility of another film with the potential of finally expanding more on what happens to Elise at the end of Insidious 2 after she is dead.

The fact is most of this film seems to lack the ability to stay with one thing and attempts to connect way too much and exposes itself to cheesy/generic dialogue and scenes to do so. The further is one of the worse of the franchise and comes off as rushed and lacking.

The evil entity does not get the time it deserves like in previous films and makes you wonder what its purpose is and why and how it has this ability. Now normally I wouldn't focus on so much of that but for some reason this film makes this entity seem so powerful and with an ability we have not seen but never really expands on it.

I don't want to spoil the film for those going to see it and can't give specific examples with out doing so. Overall this is easily the worse of the franchise.
