Review of Insidious: The Last Key (2018) by Caio E — 26 Jan 2018
Insidious: The Last Key is directed by Adam Robitel, and it stars Lin Shaye, Leigh Whannell, and Angus Sampson in a horror film about a haunting investigation going on in Elise's (Lin Shaye) childhood home that causes Elise and her crew to take care of the demon that haunts that house.
I enjoyed the first and third Insidious movies, second not so much but could've been so much worse, and I wasn't too fond of the trailers for this, but I wanted to see it because horror is one of my favorite genres as it's probably the only genre that makes me feel like I'm in there, trying to figure out the situation, even if it may not be the case with a lot of horror films that I've seen.
So as a January horror film that's the fourth one of a franchise, I was really surprised to realize that I actually like it, even though it's not as good as the first and third one. Lin Shaye is really good in this that really manages to carry a film by herself.
Some of the scares did get me, and I do think that the tunnel scene is the scariest part of the film. There are some jokes that did get a laugh out of me, and I was curious to see where it's going, even if the story isn't quite necessary other then Lin Shaye's character where the beginning of this is interesting to say at least.
There's some twists that I didn't necessarily see coming, but then there's are some parts that I didn't care for. There were some issues that I had that one of the scares didn't really work for me, and some of the humor was either not working, or just makes me cringe to sit through at times.
I'm hoping that this is the last movie as it's stretching a bit too much, but I couldn't say that I wasn't entertained by it as I was.
