I just saw this movie about 3 hours ago. The first thing I noticed was that it didn't feel as "insidious-y" as the first movie. It had sort of a chipper feeling through the beginning. Then, I realized it was a prequel, so the movies went 3-1-2 since that's the only way the movies can be set up after this one.

Then, the characters rolled around and if this isn't the most unlikable set list of characters I have seen in a long time. The dad treats his kids like dirt and the son is the biggest tool. I understand that the movie must be tough to fit a scary plot, but there was only JUMP SCARES which weren't scary at all especially when they're as predictable as they were.

I guessed what would happen and when it would happen about 4 times which lessened the quality of the film. The only terrible thing about the movies are the plot holes, *spoiler alert* especially when we don't know who hit her with a car (and squandered a HUGE story opportunity that could have been amazing.

) Even with the loud sounds of the theater, it was tough to be scared by predictability. It just wasn't the movie it was trying to be: one of the late great horror films when it was a mediocre trip down James Wan's tortured mind (don't get me wrong, I'm a huge James Wan fan) but it seemed he was too busy with Furious 7 to make this movie scarier that it needed to be.

Let's just hope The Conjuring 2 is scary, unlike its predecessor.
