Review of Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) by Harry W — 14 Jun 2015
Insidious 3 captivates from the start and rides on the back of its predecessors for the most part. Lin Shaye sheds her skin of a wise and kindly psychic into a supernatural journeyman, Ripley-type character and finally adds a third dimension to her.
The menacing antagonist is barely as interesting as the red guy from the first or the transsexual corpse bride from the first sequel but is still genuinely frightening for the most part. The characters entice through charisma, however it's totally Shaye's film from the start.
The motif of grief is the strongest theme throughout and dabbles in emotional exploration that the first two films only touched on briefly.
