Review of Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) by Aleks S — 15 Jun 2015
I have to say, I approached this with the trepidation I would the third movie in any franchise. It's never going to be as good is it? However, making it a prequel allows itself to mostly disassociate from the original two movies, which is no bad thing.
They had nowhere else to go did they? What Insidious 3 gives us are a few really good scares, not just jumpy scares but downright tense nail biting moments. There's some genuine horror here and they're not just going through the motions.
I'd put it on a par with the first and it's certainly better than the second. Leigh Whannell is a decent talent and his influences always seem to be the classic horror. If Insidious was inspired by Poltergeist and Annabelle by Rosemary's Baby then Insidious 3 leans heavily towards the classic Elm Street.
Eye in the mouth anyone? Decent movie, well performed, well produced and it'll leave you looking at net curtains in an entirely new foreboding way.
