Review of Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) by Andy R — 29 Oct 2016
I have come to enjoy the structure of the Insidious films. With all three films thus far, the first two acts make up the bulk of the tension building, leaving the third act as an exploration adventure in "the further".
Chapter 3 continues that formula, without wearing it out. The choice to step back as a prequel to the previous two films lets us have another outing with Lin Shaye's psychic, Elise Rainer. While the central conflict may center around a young girl being haunted, it is Elise's story that is the real development of this film.
And in the vein of the previous films, the visual styling of "the further" and its ghostly inhabitants is mysterious and creepy.
