Review of Insidious (2011) by Dylan R — 08 Feb 2014

Wow. This is the scariest movie I've seen since Jaws when I was 9. This movie had me looking behind my back for a week, and made me scared to walk through my house in the dead of night. This movie is honestly one of the more original horror movies I've seen. The movie has a really grim and depressing tone throughout, which is really a thing a lot of movies seem to miss. The scares are very intense, and made me jump in more than one occasion, and seeing this movie in the theaters made it doubly intense.

This movie had the chance to be a grand slam, but the movie just slowed down so much in the ending and derailed itself. It had a powerful train of suspense and scares speeding along the tracks, but the ending just felt laughable and dry. I enjoyed the astral projection part to some extent, but the part where the demon sharpens its claws to Tiny Tim just didn't take itself seriously and left me confused. Why would they do this?

7.5/10, great movie for the first hour and 15 minutes, but the ending really just sucked and made no sense.
