Review of Inside Out (2015) by Klm M — 23 May 2018
Inside Out is a 2015 animated comedy drama film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film was directed by Pete Docter and co-directed by Ronnie del Carmen. The film grossed $90.4 million in its first weekend. Within that, the film received several awards.
Inside Out is set inside the brain of young Riley. Part of the conflict begins when Riley's family decided to move from Minnesota to San Francisco ,splitting her from her friends. Riley's emotions are determined by five cartoonish characters , Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger. Riley's emotions are controlled in a master control room with a machine that makes the five emotions collide against each other to take over it. Regardless, Joy is always the dominant emotion. Riley's mental territory is the home of "Islands of Personality". The point of the four different islands is what makes Riley the person she is. Joy being the dominant emotion, makes sure these islands stay stable by making sure Rley is always happy. Her desires don't last for long when sadness touches a "joyful" memory and ends it classifying it as "sad". Conflict between Joy and Sadness causes the core memories to be knocked from their containers and vacuumed up along with the two emotions. Back at headquarters Fear, Anger and Disgust are running the show meanwhile Joy and Sadness race to prevent the core memories from being deleted.
"Inside Out" has the images and sounds you've expect from Pixar. That's where all the fun and creativity comes in. Humor isn't the only element that makes this movie great, but as well as their use of poetic and psychological concepts. The characters are the most important elements in this movie due to Docter making a smart choice of casting all of the emotions with comedic actors. It makes the movie ten times funnier.
Pete Docter admits the inspiration for the film was his 16- year -old daughter when she surprised Docter with her inexplicable mood changes. Docter wanted to portray how emotions work inside a person's head and at the same time shape a person's outer life with other people.
"Inside Out" offers different approach to the word "sadness". It gives the understanding of embracing sadness. The message is that our goal isn't to be happy all the time; we're supposed to be us. Overall, Docter definitely did an amazing job putting this film together. The film is funny and delightful. Young children will be amazed by all the surprises this film brings along.
