Review of Inside Out (2015) by Andrew C. D — 01 Jun 2016
No longer content to explore the possibilities of feelings existing in toys, monsters, cars, or French people, Pixar has moved on to the feelings of feelings, in an imaginative story that raises the bar on animation higher than ever. Inside Out features a dynamic and energetic performance by Amy Poehler, a bright and dazzling color palate, and a well developed story that sets the imagination on fire. Written and Directed by twenty-year Pixar veteran Pete Docter (Director: Up, Monsters, Inc.), Inside Out is the studios best picture.
I've since rewatched Citizen Kane, Vertigo, The Grand Illusion, and the Godfather to try to find if they contain anything better, and haven't found it. Inside Out is the best film I've ever seen.
As a side note, the trailers don't come close to doing the film justice. The marketing department just wasn't up to the daunting task of representing it. Perhaps the best trailer would have been just the first few minutes - with the title at the end, like what The Lion King did for its theatrical spots.
