Review of Inside Out (2015) by Johnathon W — 17 Aug 2017
Beautiful return to form for Pixar, delivering their best film since "Toy Story 3". The vocal cast is superb across the board & consistent about Pixar, using character actors who fit the roles over movie stars (Lewis Black is perfection as Anger).
Directors Pete Doctor & Ronnie del Carmen craft a beautiful world that, while the idea of abstract emotions detailing a child's personality may be simple, the result is a complex & accurate depiction of what a child & even adult goes through during challenging times.
They also have fun depicting what goes on in the mind of others (the look inside a young boy's brain when a girl talks to him is truest depiction probably ever put on film). Plus, while this is an all-ages movie, it does deal with some grown-up issues of the lose of childhood & growing up, especially the importance to feel all emotions, including sadness.
Original & emotional, this film shows that Pixar, while stumbling over the last few years, can still make a great animated movie.
