Review of Inside Man (2006) by Randal — 08 Apr 2006
This is the PERFECT genre movie and has been completely underrated by almost everyone. I expected very little from this other than a competent heist movie and was completely overwhelmed by both the cleverness of the action and pacing, the way that Spike Lee played with your expectations, and the taught character interplay.
Everything about it was an unexpected pleasure. The only movies that this can really be compared to are the great French thrillers like Rififi or Les Diaboliques, which were made (like this) by great directors who fully respected the conventions and limitations of the genres they are working inside.
