Review of Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) by Tyler R — 10 Mar 2015
By now, you know exactly what you're getting into with a Coen Brother's film, and Inside Llewyn Davis is no different. This time, the Coen Brothers take a look at the 1960s folk music scene as we follow a man trying to make his way in that world.
First off, nice little "ah-ha!' moment at the end there. I won't give it away, but you'll know it when you see it. Now, as is the case with all their films, these two have found, yet again, a fantastic cast of actors led by the charismatic Oscar Isaac.
Everyone delivers their insanely dark and witty dialogue on point, but Isaac absolutely nails the role. Visually, the Coens have delivered another uniquely looking film. Every scene bleeds out the color in favor of dull blues and grays, and it fits the tone, as this is certainly the most melancholy film from the duo.
I'm sure the uninitiated may be put off by the style of writing and pacing, and particularly the ending, but for those in the know, this is the Coens at their absolute finest.
