Review of Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) by Rob J — 15 Apr 2014
It is quite possible my rating will increase upon a subsequent viewing, as so many Coen Bros. movies tend to with me. They are just the best. Probably my favorite filmmakers still working today at this pint because they are so damn consistent.
This film takes place in 1961 Greenwich Village as we follow a week in the life of a young musician struggling to keep his life together in the growing folk scene if the era. It has a slow burn pace, which I loved, and the standard Coen quirkiness and unique characters that make their films such a joy to watch.
In some ways this felt like the style and pace of "A Serious Man" with the musical elements of "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", which is a unique combination that just worked well. Another cinematic joy from the Coens.
