Review of Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) by Jiana W — 06 Apr 2015
I must have missed something. This is a drab movie that follows a loser named Llewyn Davis, who bounces from couch-to-couch in Greenwich Village as he tries to make it as a folk singer. You do not really root for him as he is not a character that you cheer for or hope succeeds in his journey. See, it's not that he's a loser. It's that he is an *unlikeable* one. Everything that happens to him (or the things he does) offer no redeeming points for him at all. He becomes more and more of a jerk as the movie progresses and it's a wonder he really has any friends at all willing to house him.
I like Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan (and Justin Timberlake) but they couldn't save this for me. Neither could the music. But the best sequence is probably when John Goodman shows up on a car ride to Chicago. Most amusing scene in the whole movie.
