Well...I can see why it didn't resonate with audiences, but the Coen's (distant as ever) are terrific at putting music on film. This movie is set in 1961, in the pre Dylan folk scene in NYC. Davis (Oscar Isaac, brilliant) is a recently partnerless folk singer trying without much success to get a solo career off the ground.

Sleeping on a variety of couches, chasing after a runaway cat, and being slapped down by music partner/lover Jean (Carey Mulligan) Llewyn is yes a loser. Still, he's a talented one you can't help but pulling for.

..a little anyway. This evocation of a not so distant past works because of its meticulous attention to detail, and Oscar Isaac, who acts as well as he sings and sings as well as he acts.
