Review of Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) by Kiko E — 16 Jul 2014
Inside Llewyn Davis follows a struggling early 60's folk singer in Greenwich Village. Llewyn Davis is a folk artist who's career isn't going anywhere. He crashes at friends couches. His girlfriend is pregnant and he's making her get an abortion.
That's one of my main problems with the film. Llewyn is talented but unlikable. I don't know if he's supposed to be liked but it made me not care if he made it as an artist or not. The music is great but there is a lot of whisper-talking during the film which I found myself turning the volume all the way up to hear what they were saying.
John Goodman makes a memorable but brief appearance as a New Orleans jazz musician with an annoying tendency to poke you with his walking cane to get your attention. I think the movie comes to an end way too soon.
Not my favorite Coen Brothers film.
