Review of Inside Job (2010) by Rob L — 28 Jun 2011
An extraordinarily clear explanation of the events that led to the Global recession of 2008-9, this is a must-see documentary. Punches aren't pulled - Frederic Mishkin's excuse for taking his eye off the ball has now gone down in history and Glenn Hubbard writhes like the salamander he is.
It's good to see neoclassical economics get a right royal roasting and the investment banks exposed as entirely self-interested. What's worrying, however, is how many of the dramatis personae have cropped up again in the Obama administration - particularly Larry Summers. It's clear that these people see economic downturns as a fact of life and don't feel culpable one iota. String 'em up.
Thankfully, the new IMF head honcho Christine Lagarde comes across as a voice of reason, although I could have done without Nouriel Roubini's smugness.
