Review of Inside Islam (2002) by Private U — 16 Jun 2008
It could be worse! Really! Produced in 2002, and it shows! Save yourself a lot of time and just go to a website that explains the Five Pillars. If you want more, there are books on Islamic history that will explain the dynasties, European colonialism, etc. I wasl particularly galled at the end of the piece when terrorism and suicide bombing were tightly linked to Islam. That suicide bombing might have nationalist, not religious, motivations, (the world champions at suicide bombing are the secular but Hindi-heritage Tamils) or that nominal Christians could potentially, say, kill tens of thousands of innocent Muslims and others by invading a middle-eastern nation that posed to it no threat, well, that doesn't rate a mention. Nor does the continual colonization of the Occupied Territories by Israel, itself a nationalist impulse that might induce a nationalist response.
Recommended solely to those who know absolutely nothing about Islam and European and American colonialism. Your public library beckons. Try, "The Looming Tower" audiobook, if you want something entertaining and informative. It goes to great lengths to explain how only a twisting of Islamic theology would permit mass murder.
